In early May 2024 a joint effort by the security firm Anthropic and the research team at Calif demonstrated that a sophisticated local‑privilege‑escalation (LPE) exploit could be built against macOS 26.4.1 running on Apple’s newest M5 silicon. The key differentiator was the use of Anthropic’s large‑language model (LLM) Mythos Preview, which dramatically compressed the discovery and development cycle that traditionally takes months into a matter of days.

From 1 September, Tim Cook will hand over day-to-day management to John Ternus but will remain executive chairman, retaining strategic control. The move, which is more than just a handover, aims to secure Apple’s future through financial discipline and new hardware leadership.

Apple may have taken its first concrete step toward a foldable iPhone. According to supply chain sources cited by MacRumors and Bloomberg, trial production of the device has reportedly begun at Foxconn facilities.
